VFW Fotten Gaga II reigns supreme in Banzai Division
The VFW Fotten Gaga II earned top honors in the Banzai Division of the Saipan Billiards Association 8-Ball Budweiser Cup Tuesday night at Wild Bills Bar and Grill.
Fotten Gaga II won all but one match in the seven-match contest to easily cruise past Wild Wild West for the title.
The duo of Marvin Baulechong and Edward Suzuki got the VFW team off and running as the two swept Jesse Pangelinan and Simon Kapileo in the opening doubles match.
Ron Chisato and Gary Chisato were also able to come through for VFW in the second doubles match despite losing the first game, then Suzuki made it three in a row for VFW with a singles victory over Pangelinan despite also dropping the first game.
The win streak came to a stop as Mike Rowell finally got Wild Wild West on the board with a victory over Baulechong, but just when it seemed things were finally going to go in the West’s favor, VFW recovered and took the next three matches for the win.
Bern Ikeda and Gary Chisato put up consecutive victories over Noi Blake and Nong Detdon, then both Chisatos, Suzuki, and Baulechong defeated Pangelinan, Kapileo, Rowell, and Detdon in the final match for the icing on the cake.
Meanwhile, the Round Two Hustlers and USSP Dreams earned slots in the finals of the Tapochao Division by winning their matches as well.
It was a battle of USSP-backed teams as the Dreams took on Fotten Palau and won 5-1 at USSP. Members of Dreams include Marvin Cabo, Rick Elefante, Richard Celestino, and Rodel Dela Cruz.
For their part, the Hustlers took advantage of playing at home and scored a 4-2 victory over Da Place Sure Shots to advance. The Hustlers comprised of Joey Lucido, Rowel Mariano, Jerry Soriano, Nolan Cultura, and Mario Diola.
The Hustlers and Dreams will play for the title on May 30.
