The sultans of slow-pitch are nearing their date with destiny with this weekend’s Budweiser King of the Diamonds Softball Tournament, but before any of the robust base-rounders cinch their belts and take the field, they need to get the ground rules.

All managers, coaches, and team representatives who aim at knocking off the defending champion No Ka Oi squad are required to attend tonight’s mandatory meeting in the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium at 6pm.

Organizers plan to discuss the rules, the distribution of uniforms, tournament seedings, as well as to collect the $100 entry fee

Registration for the softball-athon is still open, and applications are available at Marpac in Gualo Rai. Teams are limited to a maximum of 15 players each, all of whom will receive complimentary hats and T-shirts.

The winner of this weekend’s tournament will advance to the next round of competition, where the Kings of Saipan will face their fellow free-swinging comrades form Guam and Palau in the finals.
