The 2006 Budweiser Cup BANMI Men’s Island-wide Basketball League will end its regular season this Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium with the pennant title and the top two spots on the line.

All team are scheduled to see action with four-time UFO league champion Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense-Bud Light and the Wells Fargo CNMI National Team leading the way.

The two teams are currently tied on top of the team standings. However, SIP has the edge after beating the Nationals on opening day.

The Nationals have won three straight games after dropping their bout to SIP and will face 2005 Inter-Government cage league champion No Zone-Bacardi at 4pm.

Three-time defending champion Ol’Aces-Budweiser sees action in the second game at 6pm against the Cyclones-O’Doul’s. After losing their first two games, the Ol’Aces have leveled their record by winning their next two. A win ensures the Ol’Aces finishing the regular season above the .500 mark, while the Cyclones will enter determined to pick up its first win of the season.

SIP will close the evening against Microl-Bud Ice at 8pm. A win by SIP secures the pennant and the No. 1 spot in the playoffs. If SIP loses and the Nationals win, the pennant will be awarded to the CNMI team. Also, if SIP loses and both the Nationals and Ol’Aces win, SIP will drop to the No. 3 spot, while the Nationals will take the pennant and the Ol’Aces will be seeded second.

The final day of the regular season is very important, as the playoffs begins next Saturday. The top two teams receive a bye in the first round and automatic slots in the semifinals.

The No. 3 and No. 6 teams will battle at 6pm on June 3, while the No. 4 and No. 5 teams face off at 8pm.

The two winners will advance to the semis. The championship game will be played on June 10 at 8pm. Before the title bout tips off, the two teams that drop their semifinals bouts will face off in a consolation game beginning at 6pm.
