Ying Yang Clan still undefeated at PIC
“Chair Man” Max Kuan’s Ying Yang Clan had got it going on at the Pacific Islands Club on Tuesday night as the undefeated squad extended its winning streak to four games, but the same could not be said for a bunch of students from Marianas High School during the 7th Annual Spring Co-ed Four’s Beach Volleyball League.
The MHS Dolphin Leapers and Splashes each suffered defeat for the fourth time, while the Divers won at the expense of their classmates on the San Antonio sand.
MHS Dolphin Divers 2, MHS Dolphin Leapers 1
The battle of the students went down to the wire at the PIC, but the MHS Dolphin Divers were able to pull out a narrow victory over their fellow classmates in the person of the Leapers.
The Leapers stormed out of the gate to take the first set, 11-7, but they quickly had the tables turned on them as the Divers answered with an 11-7 rally to tie the game at a set apiece.
Despite having the opportunity to reach the .500 mark for the first time of the season, the Leapers fell short of the win when the Divers scored its second 11-7 win of the night to even the clubs at 2-4 on the season.
The Leapers make their return next week when they face Victoria’s Secret (2-3) on Thursday, June 1, at 6:30pm, while the Divers return next Tuesday, May 30, against the Ying Yang Clan (4-0) at 6:30pm.
Sand In My Pants 2, MHS Dolphin Splashers 1
Sandra Arnold’s fearless band of bumpers, setters, and spikers overcame an early shock to the Splashers on Tuesday night to keep pace with the league leaders by earning their fourth win of the season.
After dropping the first set 11-3, Arnold’s band battled back to even the set count at one with a one-sided 11-4 score before clinching the game with a 11-6 win in the finale.
The Splashers enjoy a week off from the competition until they return to face the Dirk Digglers (2-3) on Tuesday, May 30, at 5:30pm, while Sand In My Pants sees duty tonight against Just Put It In (4-1) at 8:30pm.
Just Put It In 2, Victoria’s Secret 1
Kelly Butcher flexed her muscles to lead Just Put It In to its fourth win of the season on Tuesday night as the defender turned offender with another strong performance at the PIC.
Ike Diopolus’ squad scored an early victory by taking the first two sets with 11-5 and 11-6 scores, but the “In” crowd was unable to complete the sweep when Victoria’s Secret sashayed its was to an 11-9 win in the final match of the night.
Just Put It In faces another tough match tonight against a highly charged Sand In My Pants (4-1) club at 8:30pm, while the racy lacy Victoria’s Secret squad has its work cut out tonight when the Dirk Digglers (2-3) take the sand at 7:30pm.
Yang Clan 2, Chafed Grundle 1
Kuan’s Clan remains perfect on the season after rubbing Chafed Grundle the wrong way by taking two of three sets on Tuesday night, but the win didn’t come easy as the dis-Grundled squad battled until the end.
The Clan wasted little time laying the smack down in the opener with a convincing 11-4 win, and they clinched the win in the second set despite having a little tougher time, 11-8. Kuan was setting up perfect passes, while Bill Owens and Apple Sampson were hammering down kills all over the court to keep the Clan outside of the loss column, but they were unable to make a clean getaway as Chafed Grundle stole the final set 11-8.
The Grundle returns for action tonight against first place Lite U Up (4-0) at 6:30pm while the Ying Yang Clan matches up with the Last Call (0-5) tonight before the sun goes down at 5:30pm.
