The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands has donated $3,000 to the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee.

HANMI chairwoman Lynn A. Knight presented the check to MGOC member Bob Coldeen during the association’s general membership meeting held at the Marianas Resort & Spa Saipan.

“The Northern Marianas is an excellent sports destination, and we are looking forward to welcoming athletes from around the region to our island next month. We admire the committee’s hard work to raise the needed funds to host the Games and are pleased to be able to offer some assistance,” said Knight.

Knight said HANMI raised the money for the donation during its annual HANMI Charity Classic Golf Tournament held last April 1 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.

Founded 20 years ago, HANMI is a forum for executives in the hotel industry and allied members.

The 6th Micronesian Games will be held from June 23 to July 2 here on Saipan.

The Games is expected to draw more than 1,4000 athletes, coaches, and officials from around region.

The quadrennial event was last held on Saipan in 1990. The state of Yap originally won the bid to host next year’s Games, however, it begged off citing the devastation to its facilities caused by typhoons. Subsequently, the Micronesian Games Organizing Council awarded the Games to the CNMI.
