MEETING OF THE AUTISM SOCIETY OF THE CNMI

The Autism Society of the CNMI will be holding a meeting on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at 3pm, on the 2nd floor of the Town and Country Restaurant Building. Information regarding the group and future meetings will be provided at this meeting.

FREE BOOK WRITING WORKSHOP

The Joeten/Kiyu Public Library and the Library Friends are sponsoring a free one-day workshop for aspiring writers, graphic artists, illustrators, translators, etc.

Workshop topics include creative writing, copyright law, how to prepare materials for printing, and how to prepare publication information for various types of books or media. Depending on the level of interest, future workshops will be organized.

The workshop will be held on May 27, from 8am to 12 noon then 1pm to 4pm, at the Joeten/Kiyu Public Library Children of Our Homeland Center.

BOY SCOUT TROOP 913 EVENT

Boy Scout Troop 913 will hold its quarterly Court of Honor at 7pm on June 17, 2006, according to Valrick Welch,913 scoutmaster. (PR)

DES FAMILY FUN FAIR SET

Dandan Elementary School will hold a Family Fun Fair on Saturday, May 26, from 8am to 2:30pm. The public is cordially invited to join the school for a day of fun and excitement for the whole family. There will be a variety show by DES students, fun games, great food, rummage sale, Bounce House and other entertainment.

There will also be a Raffle Drawing (rescheduled from 2006 Cultural Day, April 8, 2006), fun game with prizes, a Rummage Sale (6:30am-2:30pm), delicious food and drinks

Anyone interested in reserving a table at the rummage sale may call 237-3668 (Mrs. Binauea) or 237-3667 (Ms. Barcinas). Each 3×6 table cost $10 to rent. For more information about the Family Fun Fair, call Barcinas at 237-3667 after 2:30pm.

LANGUAGE COMMISSION MEETING SET

The Chamorro/Carolinian Language Policy Commission’s Board of Directors will conduct its regular meeting on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 9am, at the Office of the Aging, Garapan. The public is invited.

FRAMINGHAM REGISTRATION ONGOING

Registration is now open for ongoing students in the Framingham State College Master of Education program. Students must register by May 31, 2006, to enroll in the courses scheduled from June 3-14, 2006. Total amount due for both courses are $1,132 for Cohort 3 and $1,105 for Cohort 4, plus a $40 facilitation fee for each course for both cohorts. The textbooks and pre-course assignments are now available. In order to meet graduation requirements, full payments for both courses are due upon registration.

HEAD START BEGINS OPEN REGISTRATION

The CNMI Head Start Program is announcing its open registration for school year 2006-2007. The program provides services for 3 and 4 year old children and their families.

Registration is being held at the Head Start Program Office on Capitol Hill, from 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

CHAMBER LAUNCHES ‘INVITE-A-SAILOR’ PROGRAM

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce has launched its “Invite-A-Sailor” program, where interested families can invite sailors to their homes for a meal or a barbeque.

There is no other obligation or expectations, although families may wish to take their sailor on an island tour or other activities could do so.

Armed Forces Committee chairman Associate Judge David A. Wiseman spearheads the Invite-A-Sailor Program. It seeks to provide an opportunity for local families to meet and entertain members of the U.S. military.

MEMORIAL DAY MEETING SET

On May 29, 2006, Memorial Day, the CNMI will be paying tribute to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have passed on. All Memorial Day Committee members and all interested in being a part of the committee are being informed that we have started to meet every Tuesdays at 9am, at the Office of Military/Veterans Affairs on Capitol Hill building 1365. Everyone is encouraged and invited to attend. (PR)

RELOCATION OF BPL OFFICE

The office of the Board of Professional Licensing has relocated and is now sharing office space with the Nursing Board Examiners and the Medical Profession Licensing Board at House No. 1336, Ascension Drive, Capitol Hill, next to the Energy Office. The Attorney General’s Office wants to hear from all CNMI consumers who have been solicited by a company calling themselves Community Reading Club of Southern California. This company contacts consumers over the phone and tries to sell them magazine subscriptions. Often, the sales pitch involves an offer of a “free” gold watch with the placement of an order with this company, please call the Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Counsel at 664-2333. You may be entitled to a refund. (PR)
