Final golf qualifier this weekend
The final qualifying tournament for golfers hoping to represent the CNMI in the 6th Micronesian Games is this weekend, according to coordinator Jess Wabol.
Wabol said the fourth and final qualifier from the blue tee for men and red tee for women will be held tomorrow, May 20, at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort. For duffers that missed a round of golf during the qualifiers, Wabol said he has scheduled Sunday, May 21, as a make-up day also at the COP golf course.
Check in time for both events is at 11am with tee time expected an hour later as 12pm.
Wabol is expected to pick five golfers for the men’s team and same number for the women’s team for the Micro Games, which is set from June 23 to July 3 on Saipan.

Aside from golf, sports featured for the Games include athletics, baseball for men, beach volleyball, basketball, softball, fast pitch softball, spear fishing, swimming, tennis, triathlon, outrigger canoeing, table tennis, volleyball, wrestling for men, weightlifting, and Micronesian All-Around.
The Games will be held from June 23 to July 2 and is expected to draw 1,500-1,700 athletes, coaches, and officials from around region.
The event was last held on Saipan in 1990. The state of Yap originally won the bid to host next year’s Games, however, it begged off citing that its facilities were devastated by typhoons over the past years. Subsequently, the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee awarded the Games to the CNMI. (Mark Rabago)
