The Emergency Management Office has been trying to reduce fuel and phone costs in response to the Fitial administration’s call for cost-cutting measures.

EMO Deputy Director Mark S. Pangelinan informed the Saipan Tribune that he and Director Gregorio Deleon Guerrero are closely working on in the implementation of cost-cutting actions as directed by Gov. Benigno R. Fitial.

Pangelinan said they are reducing the number of phone lines and, since January 2006, they have been requiring the staff to park all EMO vehicles at their office after work hours to save on fuel costs.

“Another cost-cutting measure is to get rid of all cellular phones as directed by the governor,” the deputy director said.

“As you may be aware of, EMO is considered a critical agency, but we must be realistic and help in cutting costs and living within our means,” he added.

Pangelinan said they are also now in the process of networking their printers to have only one dedicated printer per section.

Gerald Guerrero, electronics foreman and a staff of the SmartNet Section, is spearheading the networking process.

“This will save on inks which are on the price increase. By doing the networking of the printers to section computers, there will also be less maintenance done,” Pangelinan said.
