Pagan task force begins work
Members of the Pagan mining task force met Tuesday afternoon to commence work on drafting a bid for a permit to extract pozzolan from the northern island.
Twelve government and business representatives gathered at the Governor’s Office for an organizational meeting. The task force members assigned tasks among themselves and formed a plan to meet Governor Fitial’s 60-day deadline for the creation of a request for proposals.
“The task force is off to a good start. We are looking forward to the achievement of their goals so we can put out an RFP and properly develop Pagan,” said press secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr., who attended the meeting.
The task force members include Rep. Cinta Kaipat and her fellow PaganWatch member Pete Perez, Pagan Watch attorney Matthew Smith, Rep. Absalon Waki Jr., and Sen. Maria Pangelinan.
Attorney Howard Willens and Ray Mafnas from the Governor’s Office, Jerome Aldan from the Department of Public Lands, Coastal Resources Management director John Joyner, civil engineer Pete Sasamoto, and Pete Deleon Guerrero from the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office are also part of the task force.
