With little more than a month remaining before the finest athletes in Micronesia descend upon the CNMI to vie for medals and bragging rights, numerous local teams are busy training on the fields, roads, track, and in the water to be the best they can be.

The Saipan Swim Club is no different but a group of the tankers will be taking their show on the road this weekend to take part in the Guam Swimming Federation’s last All-Island Invitational Swim meet of the season.

Last year’s NMASA Coach of the Year Michael Stewart and 17 up-and-coming swimmers will make waves in the Hagåtña Swimming Pool this weekend against the Tarakito, Manukai, Manhoben, Typhoon, and Marlin teams from Guam, but they will also be competing against them selves.

In all there will be 17 kids in the water competing in over 147 individual events, and coach Stewart added a little incentive for those who do the best in the southernmost tank in the Marianas.

“It should be a good meet. A lot of rookies are going that have never been to Guam before so that’s cool, and some of the kids, if they perform well enough can make the Micro Games team,” he said.

The team will be without a number of notable stars who have made a habit of leaving the competition in their wakes because of the number of high school proms this weekend, but a strong field of youngsters will be ready to step up in the big show.

Dominique Austin, Tatiana Calvo, Zoe Jewell, Amanda Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Emily Jones, Shane Ann Jones, Grace Kimball, Salyna Leon Guerrero, Cassidy Majors, Jellian Majors, and Keanna Villagomez will round out the competition for the SSC women, while Andrew Kimball, Kensuke Kimura, Shin Kimura, Jack Sharer, and Rezne Wong will suit up in the men’s division.
