Houston sailors enjoy HK visit
HONG KONG—The Guam-based Los Angeles-class submarine USS Houston visited Hong Kong along with USS Frank Cable and USS Chicago on April 30-May 3. This was the Houston’s first visit to Hong Kong since being forward deployed to Guam in December 2004.
Houston sailors spent time immersing themselves in the local culture of food, shopping, and entertainment. Four Houston sailors joined crewmembers from Frank Cable and spent a day cleaning and painting at the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children in the heart of Hong Kong. The facility is a pre-school with approximately 300 students. The energetic preschoolers enthusiastically entertained the visiting sailors with a vivid display of singing and dancing, welcoming the crew to Hong Kong.
The American Club of Hong Kong hosted a cocktail party for the three visiting warships. Craig Lindsay, president of the club, welcomed the ships to Hong Kong, exchanging plaques and gifts with the ships’ commanding officers as well as with the Commander of Submarine Squadron Fifteen, Commodore Brad Gehrke.
Frank Cable and Houston are homeported in Guam as part of Submarine Squadron Fifteen. Chicago is part of Submarine Squadron One and is homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. (PR)
