The Marianas Visitors Authority recently participated in the four-day Osaka Tour Expo 2006 in the INTEX OSAKA Exhibition Hall from May 2 to 5, 2006, as part of efforts to further promote the Marianas—Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

MVA marketing assistant Hiroyuki Tanji, together with representatives from the MVA Japan Office, stood for the MVA at this year’s expo.

The Osaka Tour Expo is an event that highlights the latest information on travel, including domestic and overseas tourist attractions, leisure facilities and travel-related goods and services.

This was the third year that the MVA participated. This year’s expo welcomed more than 50,000 visitors, with 130 booths from 53 countries.

Since its inception in 1987, the Osaka Tour Expo has become one of the biggest travel events, contributing to increased interest in travel and revitalization of the tourism industry.

“The MVA is working to capture this market, together with capitalizing on the daily air service by Northwest Airlines. We are developing strategies that will promote awareness of our destination as well the proximity of our location in this market. Therefore, we hope to secure a bigger share of their outbound travel,” said Wayne Pangelinan, MVA marketing manager.

The MVA booth distributed brochures and materials introducing tourist sites and attractions, hotels, optional tour, and activities in the CNMI.

In addition, the “Saipan-da!” character made an appearance at the MVA booth and on the main stage where MVA held a Marianas Quiz and Janken-game (paper-scissors-stone) for visitors. (PR)
