After a long wait, it was finally decided that the 2006 Liberation Day festivities will once again be held at the Garapan Fishing Base—not at the American Memorial Park as reported earlier.

Liberation Day Committee public relations officer Reina Camacho confirmed this week that the Department of Public Lands had responded favorably to the group using the same venue for the Liberation Day celebration this year.

American Memorial Park was the alternative venue for the celebration since the committee didn’t hear immediately from the Public Lands office.

Camacho said that, with a fixed venue for the activity, the committee has started to construct booths for the festivities’ concessionaires. She said at least 44 booths are available for vendors.

The Liberation Day Committee is reminding interested vendors that the deadline for submission of applications is next Friday, May 19, at the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

“In addition to the usual concessions of food and beverages, the committee has determined to allow booth space for those interested in operating games for adults and for kids,” said Camacho, adding that the booths could also be used for arts and crafts, informational or promotional activities.

The booth fee for these categories is only $900 each.

For activities requiring larger areas, open spaces are also available for use at the following prices:
* for small spaces up to 600 square feet, $800;

* for large spaces over 600 square feet but less than 1,000 square feet, $1,000; and

* for extra-large spaces greater than 1,000 square feet, $1,200.

“The committee expects to receive all applications for the 44 booths and the open space by the May 19 deadline,” said Camacho.

Liberation Day Concessions committee chair Mona T. Rebuenog assured vendors that the construction of booths would be completed by May 28. By this time vendors can move items into the booths for preparations.

Interested individuals, groups or organizations can pick up application forms at the Saipan Mayor’s Office. For more information, contact the Saipan Mayor’s Office at 234-7444 or 234-6208.
