While youngsters throughout the CNMI have been busy dusting up the diamonds for the past couple of months, the next generation of mini-Major Leaguers is about to get started as the Saipan Little League Baseball Association is bringing back the popular sport of Tee Ball.

According to Saipan Little League Baseball Association president Mike Borja, the Tee- Ball Program is an extension of the local Little League program and is intended to teach kids between the ages of five and eight years old the basics of baseball without the pressures of pitching.

After hosting the initial registration last month, the SLLBA is providing another opportunity for parents to get their kids involved in the second season as they will be holding open registration this Saturday from 9am until 11am outside of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium at the Oleai Sports Complex.

Last year, roughly 100 players between the ages of five and eight years of age from teams with names like the Cubs, the Sluggers, and the Little Braves lined up side by side at American Memorial Park for all of the pomp and circumstance before they tore off in different directions for the start of the regular season.

The league will be getting underway soon and parents looking to get their tykes onto the lineups are urged to get their kids register for the program this weekend. Last year there were only four games and a round robin tournament before the end of season barbeque so the time to get in is now.

Parents and volunteers are needed to assist with managing the field and providing support for their children, and as a reminder, volunteer coaches need to obtain police clearance from the Superior Court in order for the League to comply with International Little League Requirements.
