Chamber launches ‘Invite-A-Sailor’ Program
“Let’s welcome the sailors to our home for hearty and warm meals to show them the renowned CNMI hospitality,” read the “Invite-A-Sailor” program recently launched by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.
SCC executive director Christine Parke said through a media release yesterday that interested families could invite sailors to their homes for a meal or a barbeque.
“There is no other obligation or expectations, although families may wish to take their sailor on an island tour or other activities could do so,” Parke said.
Armed Forces Committee chairman Associate Judge David A. Wiseman spearheads the Invite-A-Sailor Program. It seeks to provide an opportunity for local families to meet and entertain members of the U.S. military.
Parke added that for these sailors that are very far from their respective homes, the program would also provide an occasion for a home visit and a chance to connect with families in the CNMI.
She said there are several local CNMI families that have already expressed their interest and actually have signed up for the program. “More host families are always welcome,” she added.
