Rota student accepted to nat’l honors group
Charlie Atalig from the Rota High School has been accepted to the 2006 National Honors Convocation that will be held at Loyola Marymount University. Charlie will attend the National Honors Convocation on Medicine, which will be from June 30 to July 9, 2006.
NHC brings together outstanding student leaders from around the country. Students are selected based on their high academic performance and leadership.
As a member of this select group, Charlie will spend 10 days at Loyola Marymount University, focusing on academic pursuits. Each NHC program begins with a unique leadership curriculum to help students fulfill their potential and culminates with a hands-on career-focused practicum in business, law, medicine or television and film.
The Honors Convocation leadership curriculum is presented in partnership with Churchill Leadership, founded by Sir Winston Churchill’s granddaughter, Celia Sandys. Churchill Leadership has distilled Churchill’s essential principles and leadership strategies into behavioral based programs that show people how to develop their leadership skills and take action.
Following the leadership curriculum, students turn their new knowledge into skills by working in career-focused groups to: create and implement a business plan; prepare and present a criminal trial; make and present diagnostic patient determinations; or produce a short film project. Student gain unique insight and experience into their prospective careers by interacting with leading professionals in business, law, medicine, or television and film.
Currently, scheduled keynote speakers for the program are Claes Nobel, senior member of the Nobel Prize family, and Celia Sandys, Winston Churchill’s granddaughter. Other speakers include leading professionals such as Jim Keegan, CFO of Lions Gate Films; Lisa Boykin, J.D., vice president of Paramount Pictures; and William Baldwin, actor/producer. (PR)
