Pinoy Idol tourney tonight at GIG

All roads will lead to GIG Discotheque tonight for the grand launching of a 10-week singing competition dubbed “Pinoy Idol” showcasing the vocal talents of Saipan’s Filipino music lovers.

The contest is open to all Filipinos who are 21 years old and above. Each contestant will belt out a Tagalog song or an English piece originally recorded by a Filipino singer.

Criteria for judging are: Voice Quality, 25 percent; Stage Presence & Facial Expression, 30 percent; Timing & Delivery, 30 percent; and Costume, 15 percent.

All contestants should be at GIG by 9pm with their minus-one material on CD audio format.

The guest performers for the launching tonight are Allen Mijares, the 2005 GIG Singing Star Champion, and Patrick Kapaw-an, 2005 GIG Lip Sync Champion.

The weekly winner will receive a gift certificate and will qualify for the Grand Finals on July 19. The Grand Prize winner will receive $300 cash; 2nd Place, $200; and 3rd Place, $ 100. All three will get trophies.
