Ol’Aces hammer Hustlers, 14-9
It took three pitchers and a boatload of hitting to do it but the Ol’Aces pulled to within a game of third place by hammering the Hustlers, 14-9, at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field on Sunday in continuation of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association.
The stands were rocking at the Oleai Sports Complex as the Junior Leaguers piled up 23 runs on the scoreboard, and the Ol’Aces did the majority of the damage by cranking out a dozen hits—more than half of which came of the sticks of Ben Taisacan and Dane Lisua.
Taisacan was incredible at the plate with a 4-for-5 outing that yielded a string of singles and three runs batted in while Lisua drove in four runs off of a pair of base hits and a triple to finish 3-for-5 on the day.
The dynamic duo was clicking on all cylinders, but they had to because it took three pitchers to hamper the Hustler hitters. Dave Camacho gave up three runs off of three hits and lasted all of one inning and Juan Iguel went for three innings and allowed five runs off of four hits, but Lisua ran over to the mound from third base to close out the final three innings in fine fashion by surrendering one run off of just two hits.
The combo sealed the deal to improve the Ol’ Aces to 3-3 on the season while the Hustlers slipped to a half game behind the Jets in third place at 4-2.
BIG LEAGUE
OL’ACES 7, FIELDERS 3
The oldest Ol’Aces matched their younger brothers on the diamond by fleecing the Fielders for seven runs to earn their third win of the season to stay a half-game out of first place in continuation of the Big League action at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Franco Flores was a force on the hill and managed to last the entire seven innings after giving up three runs off of seven hits and fanning seven. The all-star to be also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles, but his teammates added more than enough offense to get the job done.
Anthony Palacios was a perfect 2-for-2 with a single and an RBI double, and Tyrone Omar went 2-for-4 with a pair of base knocks and a stolen bag, while catcher Carl Ada went 1-for-3 with a three-run double in the first that drove in Omar, Palacios, and Flores.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the first, the Ol’Aces allowed the Fielders to creep back into the game with a pair of runs in the third and the leveler in the fourth, but they took control of the contest with a four-run fifth and hung on for the win.
MAJOR LEAGUE
PATRIOTS 19, OL’ACES 0
The folks at Webster’s are running out of words to describe the season that the Patriots are having, as the red, white, and blue crew notched its 11th win of the year by overwhelming the Ol’Aces, 19-0, at Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Field on Sunday morning.
Brian Camacho was nearly perfect on the mound and was flawless at the plate as he allowed just two hits and fanned six through four innings, but his real magic came at the plate where he went 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs off of four base hits.
Bolstering Camacho’s day at the ballpark was four-man Patriots hit parade that had all of its members posting 3-for-4 plate performances and drove in a combined seven runs.
Justin Kintol smacked a single and a pair of doubles, Anthony Salas did the same, Jordan Pangelinan hit three base knocks, and Timothy Rabago singled, tripled, and hit a two-run homerun.
RED SOX 6, BRAVES 5
The Red Sox shocked the Tanapag Braves in extra innings on Sunday when Alex Monkeya sped home when a wild pitch hit the backstop in the top of the seventh to get the underdogs their third win of the season, 6-5.
Alex wasn’t the only Monkeya with a big day as third baseman Palmerson Monkeya went 1-for-4 with a huge RBI double that came during a five-run sixth inning that changed the game.
Lincoln Ingram allowed five runs off of seven hits through six innings before Anthony Ingram closed out the Braves with a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, but it was nearly a miracle that allowed the Sox to get there in the first place.
Trailing 4-0 and down to their final at bats, the Red Sox scored five runs off of just three hits in the top of the fifth to take the lead for the first time all day, but the Braves managed to tie the contest with a run to force extra innings.
The loss put the Braves in a fourth place tie with McDonald’s at 6-6, while the Red Sox climbed into eighth at 3-10.
KAGMAN 1-2-3 13, MCDONALD’S 5
McDonald’s lost for the same time in as many days when Kagman 1-2-3 steamrolled over the small fries 13-5 on Sunday afternoon to maintain their two-game gap behind the Patriots at 9-2.
The homesteaders have been on fire as of late and they continued to streak past McDonald’s with a mix of solid pitching and hard hitting. Benjamin Hocog was stung for five runs off of four hits through the first two and a third innings, but Richard Dela Cruz came in to save the day by holding the little nuggets scoreless in the final three and two-thirds.
Leeroy Regis flexed his muscle at the plate by driving in four runs, and Franklin Agulto went 2-for-3 with a pair of hits, while Dela Cruz hit a single and a three-run double to finish 2-for-4 on the day.
