The Division of Immigration has sought the deportation of a Bangladeshi whose application for immediate relative status was denied.

Immigration investigator Richard T. Lizama said that Sayful Islam failed to maintain a valid entry permit after his application for IR status was denied.

Superior Court associate judge David Wiseman ordered Islam to appear in court on May 25 at 1:30pm and explain why he should not be deported from the CNMI.

Lizama stated in court papers that the respondent was issued a non-resident worker’s permit that expired on July 1, 2005.

The investigator said Islam has no pending complaint either with the Department of Labor or the Federal Ombudsman.

Lizama said Islam was married to a U.S. citizen and has submitted an application for IR status on July 22, 2005.

On Sept. 6, 2005, the acting Immigration director denied the application, he said.

Labor and Immigration records show that Islam started to work on Saipan as a security guard. He then became a commercial cleaner. (Ferdie de la Torre)
