The Public School System announced the following activities and events that are going to take place the week of May 7-13 as the CNMI joins the rest of the American family in celebrating National Teachers Appreciation Week.

Each school will have their own activities for their teachers that acknowledge, honor, congratulate, and show appreciation for all their good deeds, as they go above and beyond the call of duty to strengthen and improve education in the CNMI.

The students are tasked to share their ideas with their parents who could help them in bringing goodies and other meaningful gifts to school everyday starting on Monday, May 8. Each day, students and parents are to bring certain items as per the weeklong planned activities to show how much they appreciate their teachers.

Some of the suggested goodies that they could bring include: Monday, Apple and Fruit Day; Tuesday, Leis and Mwar Mwar Day; Wednesday, Praise Note Day; Thursday, Chocolate and Candies Day; and Friday, Party and Surprise Gifts Day, which will be provided by the administrator and PTA support staff.

Dandan Elementary School principal Jonas Barcinas said everybody should remember that being a teacher is an overwhelming but rewarding job.

“Teachers are faced with different students with different learning abilities as well as behavior. They face humongous challenges and obstacles but they are able to make learning fun and exciting for every child under their care. Everyone in the community needs to stand tall and proud for the wonderful teachers we have in our system,” he said.

On behalf of the PSS administrators, commissioner of education, Board of Education, PTA, and support staff at every school, Barcinas asked the public, parents, government and private agencies to come out and join them as they celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week.

On Tuesday, May 9, Barcinas said all schools would be at their designated place to cheer and show their appreciation to all teachers starting at 3pm.

Below are the areas where the schools are going to be:

1. Koblerville Elementary School, Saipan Southern High School, and San Antonio Elementary School will be at the intersection and traffic light at St. Jude Church or the traffic light next to Hopwood Jr. High School and William S. Reyes Elementary School;
