Female coaches victorious in PSBL All-Star game

After guiding their cage belles from the sidelines throughout the regular season, the coaches finally got their opportunity to prove that they too have game.
The coaches dominated the opening half and held their ground in the second half to cruise past the girls’ All-Star team, 66-39, in the Private School Basketball League All-Star game yesterday afternoon at the Calvary Christian Academy basketball court.
The coaches broke out to an explosive start as the team went off for 19 points, while surprising the All-Stars and limiting them to just seven points. Holly Broberg and Aleta Guinto had their way and scored six and five points, spearheading the coaches run.
The dominance continued in the second period as the coaches used their height advantage and passing skills to distance themselves. Broberg continued to have the hot hand as she added another four points, as did Vanessa Pritchard. At the break, the coaches were far ahead, 31-11.
Pritchard and Broberg were simply unstoppable at the offensive end as the two picked up where they left off and combined for 14 points in the third quarter. With the two sizzling and getting solid support from everyone else, the coaches were able to balloon their lead to 28 points, 53-25.
The All-Stars refused to go down without a fight and put up a strong charge to start the fourth period. Stephanie Arnold hit a bucket in the paint and two free throws, Priscilla Norman hit a couple of jumpers, and Lena Guzman pumped in six points, but their efforts came a bit late as the coaches were able to close the game ahead by a comfortable margin.
Broberg finished with a game-high 20 points, while Pritchard and Guinto finished with 18 and nine points to lead the coaches.
Norman led the All-Stars with 12 points, while Guzman and Arnold added 11 and eight points.
The boys’ All Star game was still ongoing as of press time.
