Asiana CEO visits Saipan
A top executive of Asiana Airlines met with Gov. Benigno R. Fitial on Sunday and shared his ideas for tourism and the “silver market” with the Commonwealth’s chief executive.
C.B. Park, vice president and chief executive officer of Asiana Airlines, was on Saipan this past weekend on a private golf holiday. This was Park’s second visit to Saipan in six months.
The governor also met with Marianas Visitors Authority chairman Jerry Tan and Asiana’s regional sales office general manager Kwang Joong Kim to discuss ways to help increase tourist arrivals to the Northern Marianas.
“I was very pleased to get ideas on how we can make our islands more competitive compared to other destinations for Korean travelers,” said Fitial.
Asiana’s Park expressed how much he has enjoyed coming to Saipan and stated that he is committed to helping the CNMI increase Korean tourist arrivals.
In last Friday’s news briefing, Fitial highlighted the enormous size of the Asiana group and mentioned that Asiana Airlines constituted only a small portion of the overall company.
Fitial expressed appreciation for the Asiana group’s support for the CNMI tourism market and also pledged to support the group’s efforts to bring in more Korean travelers.
The Office of the Governor said in a statement that, even before assuming public office on Jan. 9, Fitial has made every effort to cultivate private investment for the CNMI’s economy.
After the final absentee ballots were counted late last year, Fitial traveled to several countries in Asia to meet business people and invite them to invest in the CNMI. Since taking office, Fitial continues to travel at his own expense, in a bid to cultivate profitable and rewarding foreign investments for the CNMI.
Other private investors and business people, including executives of Petron, a Philippine energy firm, have also visited the CNMI to meet Fitial and discuss the CNMI’s investment opportunities. (PR)
