SANTA RITA, Guam—Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 Detachment 6 returns to Guam April 20 after completing an eight-month deployment.

While embarked on board USS Essex (LHD-2), the detachment, consisting of 31 personnel, participated in exercises and operations in Japan, the Philippines, and the Republic of Korea. With two MH-60S helicopters, the detachment completed more than 375 sorties and 750 flight hours. Although its primary mission was search and rescue, the detachment supported 30 ships with vertical replenishment, cargo movement, and passenger transfer.

In addition, the detachment supported Essex and 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in responding to the landslide that killed hundreds of people in Leyte, Philippines. Personnel flew more than 100 accident-free flight hours in a week to ensure supplies were delivered and logistical support were provided during relief efforts. (PR)
