Hickeys lead to capture of female escapee

A policeman's instinct made possible the recapture of a female juvenile detainee during entrapment operations at her boyfriend's house in Kagman at dawn yesterday.

Police spokesman Jason T. Tarkong said that officer Jesse Concepcion found the 15-year-old female suspect hiding under a small table covered with a tablecloth inside her boyfriend's bedroom.

The 16-year-old boyfriend was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice and harboring a fugitive.

The female suspect had escaped on Sunday, July 12, from the Division of Youth Services' juvenile detention facility in Kagman III. It was her second escape, following her first while undergoing treatment at the Commonwealth Health Center on July 6.

Tarkong said that police had visited the boyfriend on Monday and warned him about harboring a fugitive but he had denied meeting her.

On July 14, police detectives again followed up on leads about the female juvenile and visited the boyfriend anew. Again, he denied meeting the suspect.

However, police noticed that he had hickeys on his neck, which made them suspicious. When police asked him about the hickeys, the boyfriend finally admitted having been with her around 1am that day.

He then told police that he dropped off the suspect at an abandoned house in Kagman II, some 15 minutes before the detectives arrived. He offered to help and even escorted the police to the location where he said he dropped off the suspect.

Tarkong said that, after continued questioning by the police, they noticed that he was untruthful with his statements because he kept changing details of his story.

He later admitted that the suspect was at his residence when the police had arrived.

Yesterday, police received a tip that the female fugitive had arrived again at her boyfriend's house around 3:30am.

Responding police officers set up an entrapment operation and convinced the boyfriend's father to allow them to search the house.

Officer Jesse Seman knocked on the boyfriend's bedroom door and it took the boy awhile to answer the door.

Police did not immediately find the suspect inside. Instead, the boyfriend told them that he made contact with the suspect that night but she would be back.

Officer Jesse Concepcion checked the boyfriend's bedroom again and noticed a small table in the bedroom covered with a tablecloth. He lifted the tablecloth and that's where he found the fugitive, hiding under the table.

The two were immediately arrested.
