The DVD containing scenes of the many diving sites on Saipan is now translated in Japanese so that diving aficionados from Japan who would want a memento of the numerous beauty spots on the island could grab a copy.
Producer and underwater cinematographer and videographer Mike Tripp recently finished the Japanese version of the DVD film, called The Underwater World of Saipan.
Tripp said he is excited for this recent development of his project. He said the Japanese version of the disc would be available in the next four to six weeks from today. “This could not have been possible without the help of Toshi from MOC dive shop and NMDOA [Northern Mariana Dive Operators Association] who helped me with the translation of all the fish names and Kayoko Reber who helped with the cover translation,” he added.
The 105-minute interactive DVD that provides a picture of the “incredible beauty and bio-diversity of Saipan’s underwater” world was released in December 2006. Tripp said the response to the DVD has been very positive. However, he still hopes the sales for the DVD would increase.
He added that the Japanese version of the disc would help the sales of the DVD favorably.
The professional diver and underwater videographer will visit Rota's diving spots to begin the filming of some dive segments that the Marianas Visitors Authority will be using to help market the CNMI. He is set to leave for Rota this week.
The DVD, under the Mike Tripp Productions, is still available for $25 a copy. Tripp said it is now being sold at the CNMI Museum of History and Culture, PHI Pharmacy in Dandan, CNMI Council of the Arts on Capital Hill, Joeten Susupe and Garapan, Hotel Nikko Saipan, CNMI Wax Museum and the Managaha Island Gift Shop.
According to its website www.theunderwaterworldof.com, the DVD is more than just a highlight reel of Saipan's amazing SCUBA diving. “This DVD takes you on 7 distinctly different dives including The Grotto, Obyan, Banzai Cliff, Ice Cream, Managaha, Naftan Point and Lau Lau Bay.
Tripp earlier said the DVD uses 250 user-selectable subtitles to identify more than 130 different marine creatures making it a valuable resource for everyone from dive professionals to non-divers. A bonus 8-minute scenic slide show also highlights Saipan's topside attractions including flame trees in full bloom, wide open golf courses, beautiful white sand beaches, historic WWII tanks, bunkers and guns as well as the island of Managaha and the view of Saipan from its shores.
