A fire of still undetermined cause burned down a silver 1995 Toyota pickup truck that was parked at a house in District 1 on Rota on Monday night.

No one was injured as no one was inside the car when the fire occurred, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde yesterday.

Gersonde said that DFEMS Rota received information at 7:44pm from a bystander about a fire in District 1.

Firefighters from Songsong Fire Station arrived at the scene two minutes later. Firefighters placed the fire under control at 8:35pm.

Gersonde said preliminary investigation conducted by an arson investigation unit revealed that when the owner of the truck arrived home, he smelled something burning. He suspected that the smell came from his truck’s engine but he did not check it.

Further investigation showed that the fire came from the engine compartment, Gersonde said.

“The cause of the fire is undetermined and is still pending further investigation,” Gersonde said.

Early Tuesday morning, an overloaded multi-plug outlet reportedly triggered a fire that engulfed Kevin’s Mart in Chalan Kanoa.
