Dizon, Hinds repeat as Tour de Tinian winners

KAMMER BEACH, Tinian—Nap Dizon and Kimberlyn King-Hinds proved to have the sturdier legs to rule the 4th Tour de Tinian held last Saturday during the San Jose Fiesta celebration.

Dizon won for the third straight year while it was back-to-back for Hinds.

Dizon clocked in at 5:10:18 to clinch the men’s open crown in the 100-kilometer race around the island for a more than four-minute lead over runner-up Bob Ferrer (5:14:39). John Arceo was a close third as he was only 1:06 behind Ferrer at 5:15:45.

Hinds, on the other hand, enjoyed a close to one-hour advantage over Felicia Reynolds in their head-to-head matchup in the women’s open. The Tinian bet finished the race in 5:55:29 against the 6:46:39 of Reynolds.

John Oliver Gonzales, Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog’s chief of staff and the head of the CNMI delegation to the 12th Festival of the Pacific Arts in Guam, awarded the medals and cash prizes to all the winners.

Wynn Bryant Brillo won the battle of 16-year-olds after besting fellow teen Kenji Matias of Tinian in the Under-25 age group. Brillo clocked 5:31:21 against the 5:33:05 of Matias, who became the top Tinian finisher in the division. J.R. Libut was third at 5:52:55.

The Tinian Junior High School student Matias bested Charlie Cabreros by 29 seconds in the battle between the island’s cyclists. Cabreros finished at 5:33:34, while Norlo Jacosalem was third at 5:44:13.

Jo Libut was the lone entry in the men’s 26-35 division, while Ferdinand Ramos (5:26:17), Ricky Suba (5:32:17), and Cabreros (5:33:34) were 1-2-3 in the 36-45. Cesar Fortaleza topped the 46-over group (5:18:52), while Robert Tamondong (5:44:12) beat Jacosalem by a hairline (5:44:13).

The quartet of Robert Fajardo, Richard Lazaro, Fernando Cacabellos, and Rey Lopez emerged victorious in the four-team event (5:36:10), while Allen Perez joined Floro Drexes, Alex Gozon, and Jojo Valencio for a runner-up finish (5:55:26).

Ulysses Gania, Edgar Jabinar, Dennis Deala, and George Nazarino came in third at 5:57:30. Romy Ampit and John Dona were the top men’s pair (5:29:09), besting Ernie Henzon and Noe Valdismo by nine seconds (5:29:18).

Noel Altamirano (5:17:18), Dencio Bautista (5:18:53), Winstom Omar (6:07:53), Jay Diyco (6:08:02), Susan Marchitti (8:24:10), and Krizandra Gozon (8:32:34) received special awards. Gozon and Marchitti also earned perseverance awards.

Tan Holdings, Tinian Mayor’s Office, Tinian Municipal Council, Marianas Visitors Authority, Department of Lands and Natural Resources, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Department of Public Works, Department of Public Safety, Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Taro Sue, Susan’s Creation, and Bridge Investment Group helped organize the race.
